Finding an editor can be tough, and sometimes authors and editors don’t click. Because of this, I offer a free sample edit to new and prospective clients.
This gives you a chance to see if my style works for you, and if it doesn’t, then you will get some feedback that may be helpful. I’ll edit 3000 words of a novel, 1500 words of a novella, or the first 500 words of a 5K short story.
Fill out the contact form below and let me know if you’re interested in proofreading, copy editing, or a line edit. I’ll contact you to schedule your sample edit and quote for the editing service you’re interested in.
Prepare the documents for your sample:
- Format your manuscript in a standard style and readable font. The William Shunn format is standard for the SF/F/H genres.
- Use a format like .docx, .doc, or .rtf. I can’t guarantee compatibility with all formats but have had no issues with LibreOffice, Open Office, or Word.
- I will not edit a file on Google Docs, but I’ll be happy to transfer files using Google Drive or Dropbox if you’d rather not use email for attachments.
- Include a separate file with a short synopsis, a list of all major characters and locations in the sample, and the total word count of your novel. This is to ensure the proper spelling of character and place names.
